Fußball-Club Köln 01/07 e. V., commonly known as 1. FC Köln or FC Cologne in English, is a German football club based in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia. Established on 13 February 1948 through the merger of Kölner Ballspiel-Club 1901 and SpVgg Sülz 07, the club is a three-time national champion, with titles in 1962, 1963-64, and 1977-78. The team plays home matches at the RheinEnergieStadion, which has a capacity of 50,000. Known affectionately as “Die Geißböcke” (The Billy Goats), 1. FC Köln’s mascot is a goat named Hennes, a tradition that started as a carnival joke. The current mascot is Hennes IX. The club’s fierce rivalries include nearby teams Borussia Mönchengladbach, Fortuna Düsseldorf, and Bayer Leverkusen. Following the 2023-24 season, the club was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga.
