AZ Alkmaar

Alkmaar Zaanstreek, commonly known as AZ Alkmaar or simply AZ, is a Dutch professional football club based in Alkmaar and the Zaan district. Founded on May 10, 1967, the club has made a significant impact in Dutch football despite its relatively recent establishment. AZ Alkmaar has won the Eredivisie twice, with their first title in the 1980–81 season and the second in 2008–09. That same 1980–81 season saw the club reach the UEFA Cup Final, where they were narrowly defeated by Ipswich Town. In addition to their league successes, AZ has claimed the KNVB Cup on four occasions and secured one Johan Cruyff Shield. The team plays its home matches at the AFAS Stadion, which has a capacity of 19,478. Under the guidance of head coach Maarten Martens, AZ Alkmaar continues to be a competitive force in the Eredivisie.
