Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax (commonly known as Ajax) is a premier Dutch football club based in Amsterdam, competing in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football. Established on March 18, 1900, Ajax is historically the most successful club in the Netherlands, boasting 36 Eredivisie titles and 20 KNVB Cups. The club has been a constant presence in the Eredivisie since its inception in 1956 and, along with Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven, forms the “big three” clubs that have traditionally dominated Dutch football. Ajax gained global acclaim in the 20th century, becoming one of the world’s top clubs. It was named the World’s Club Team of the Year in 1992 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics and is known for its impressive record in European competitions, including winning the European Cup three times consecutively in the early 1970s. Ajax has also won multiple international trophies, including the UEFA Champions League, Intercontinental Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.
