Several Manchester United players are unclear as to what their futures hold under the leadership of Ruben Amorim; Alejandro Garnacho, Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Luke Shaw. As Amorim implements his vision for the team, questions arise: Who will benefit from his system? or who might be left behind?
Alejandro Garnacho
Despite flashes of brilliance, Garnacho has not settled on a regular start. He has been omitted from the squad for Saturday’s match against Manchester City but his future may depend on how readily he accepts Amorim’s tactical ideas as per the mirror. Garnacho has to up his performance when competing against experienced forwards to continue as one of the main characters in Old Trafford. Can he take on the challenge or will he see opportunity elsewhere?
Christian Eriksen
Christian Eriksen’s experience is an asset, but he never fits Amorim’s system of play. Despite his lack of pace and defensive contributions, the Danish midfielder has come under fire and he could now be looking at the bench as Amorim looks for a more dynamic midfield. Eriksen may soon be on the lookout for a new club if he cannot be deployed to play an intense part.
Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire’s Manchester United tenure has been troubled and looks set to become even worse under Amorim’s stewardship. Maguire’s lack of mobility could make him surplus to requirements as the generation of younger defenders and an increasingly agile backline emerges. With the club looking to re-build, will they offload their captain so a new wave of talent can emerge?
Victor Lindelöf
New signings and younger players have stiff competition for a spot in defense and Victor Lindelöf has rightfully been a reliable presence there. Amorim’s tactical approach may favor defenders better suited to play out from the back. However, if Lindelöf isn’t able to pick up these demands quickly or secure a regular start this could see him off the transfer list.
Luke Shaw
But younger talents, such as Luke Shaw, are pressing down the left side and Amorim has also continued to put different systems in place. If he fails to impress in training and matches, his injury history and inconsistency could result in lesser playing time. Could Shaw’s time at Manchester United be drawing to an end as the club moves with new strategies?
With Manchester United now under the care of Ruben Amorim, he will need to build a squad to suit his ideas.
