Southampton Football Club, commonly known as “The Saints,” is a historic football club based in Southampton, Hampshire, England. Established in 1885 as St. Mary’s Y.M.A., the club has a rich legacy in English football. After competing in lower divisions, Southampton rose to prominence by winning the FA Cup in 1976, defeating Manchester United. The club has had several successful periods, including finishing as runners-up in the First Division in 1983-84.Southampton plays its home games at St Mary’s Stadium, which has been their base since 2001, replacing the historic Dell. Known for their red and white striped shirts, the Saints have a fierce rivalry with Portsmouth, a match known as the South Coast derby. In 2024, Southampton returned to the Premier League after winning the EFL Championship play-off final, continuing their storied journey in English football’s top tier.
