Serie A, officially known as Serie A enilive in Italy and Serie A Made in Italy abroad for sponsorship reasons, is the premier football league in Italy, representing the top tier of the Italian football league system. Established in the 1929–30 season, Serie A operates as a round-robin tournament and is celebrated for its tactical and defensively astute style of play. The league is highly regarded globally, often cited for its competitive nature and strategic gameplay. The league is overseen by Lega Serie A since 2010, succeeding the Lega Calcio and the Direttorio Divisioni Superiori. Serie A has been ranked as the world’s best national league by the IFFHS in 2023 and is second in UEFA’s league coefficient rankings, reflecting its clubs’ strong performances in European competitions. Historically, Serie A dominated the UEFA rankings between 1986-1988 and 1990-1999.
