Sampdoria

Unione Calcio Sampdoria, commonly known as Sampdoria, is an Italian football club based in Genoa, Liguria, competing in Serie B, the second tier of Italian football. The club was founded in 1946 following the merger of two historic Genoese clubs, Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria, with the team’s name and iconic blue-circled (blucerchiati) kit symbolizing this union. Sampdoria shares its home ground, Stadio Luigi Ferraris, with its city rival Genoa CFC, and the two teams contest the fiercely competitive Derby della Lanterna. Sampdoria has a storied history, including a Serie A title in 1991, four Coppa Italia titles, and a Supercoppa Italiana. The club’s most significant European achievement came in 1990 when they won the Cup Winners’ Cup. They also reached the European Cup final in 1992 but lost to Barcelona. Despite ups and downs, Sampdoria remains one of Italy’s most respected clubs.
