Football Club de Nantes, commonly known as FC Nantes or simply Nantes, is a historic French football club based in Nantes, Pays de la Loire. Founded on April 21, 1943, during World War II, Nantes was formed by merging several local clubs to create a stronger, unified team. The club is one of the most successful in French football, having secured eight Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France trophies, and one Coupe de la Ligue victory. Nantes is renowned for its distinctive “jeu à la nantaise” or “Nantes-style play,” which emphasizes collective teamwork and has been a hallmark under legendary coaches like José Arribas and Jean-Claude Suaudeau. The club plays its home matches at the Stade de la Beaujoire, which has a capacity of 35,322. Nantes is affectionately nicknamed “Les Canaris” (The Canaries) due to their yellow and green colors and “La Maison Jaune” (The Yellow House).
