The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1959 as the Dallas Texans by Lamar Hunt, they became a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the franchise relocated to Kansas City and adopted its current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL following the merger in 1970 and are currently valued at over $4.85 billion USD. Clark Hunt, son of the founder, has served as chairman and CEO since 2006. The team has a rich history, winning three AFL championships in the 1960s and capturing their first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl IV against the Minnesota Vikings. Although they faced a long playoff drought, losing ten of eleven playoff games from 1993 to 2018, the Chiefs have since become a formidable team, showcasing resilience and competitive spirit on the field.
