Iker Muniain Goñi, born 19 December 1992, is a Spanish professional footballer known for his role as a left winger and forward. He began his career with Athletic Bilbao, making his debut at just 16 in 2009. Renowned for his dynamic play and stature, Muniain was dubbed “the Spanish Messi” early in his career. He significantly contributed to Athletic Bilbao’s successes, including their run to the UEFA Europa League final in 2012 and multiple Copa del Rey finals (2012, 2020, 2021). In 2024, he captained the team to victory in the Spanish Cup, capping a 19-year association with the club. On the international stage, Muniain made 59 appearances for Spain’s youth teams, winning the European Under-21 Championship in 2011 and 2013. He also competed in the 2012 Olympics and earned a second cap for the senior team in 2019.
