Liverpool secured a massive 1-0 victory over Arsenal in Gameweek 3 of the Premier League, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian midfielder, surprisingly deployed as a right-back, produced a stunning 83rd-minute free-kick to hand the Reds all three points at Anfield.
The clash between two title contenders lived up to the hype, with both sides showing resilience, tactical discipline, and flashes of attacking intent. Arsenal, with Viktor Gyökeres leading the line, looked sharp in their buildup but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Their defensive line stood firm for most of the night, but their midfield and wide players lacked the creativity to supply their new striker effectively.

Liverpool, on the other hand, enjoyed slightly more possession and registered eight shots on target. However, despite their attacking pressure, Mikel Arteta’s side kept Mohamed Salah quiet by doubling up on him throughout the game. Arne Slot’s men were equally impressive defensively, cutting off Arsenal’s passing lanes and dealing well with transitions.
With the match appearing destined for a stalemate, Szoboszlai stepped up in the 83rd minute to produce one of the goals of the season so far. From 30 yards out, he unleashed a dipping, curling free-kick that flew into the top-left corner, leaving Raya helpless. The Anfield crowd erupted as Liverpool finally broke the deadlock with a goal of pure quality.

The victory pushes Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table with a perfect start to the season. For Slot, the result was as much about defensive solidity as it was about Szoboszlai’s brilliance.
For Arsenal, this will feel like a missed opportunity. Their defensive structure was solid, but their lack of attacking spark in the final third was evident. Gyökeres had little service, and the Gunners failed to capitalize on promising positions. Arteta will know that finding a balance between defensive stability and offensive creativity will be key if they want to challenge for the title this season.
Liverpool now heads into the international break sitting top of the table. When Premier League action resumes, they will travel away to Burnley, looking to extend their winning run and solidify their status as early title favorites.
