Nioh 3 Scouting Report: The Ultimate Guide to Free Stat and Skill Respecs

Part of the thrill of Nioh 3 is drafting a new scheme and experimenting with your loadout. Sometimes you need a heavyweight strength build to break through the defensive line, and other times you need a fast, elusive Ninjutsu setup to exploit the perimeter.

If you drafted the wrong stats, don’t panic. You are not stuck with a bad roster. Once you clear the prologue and hit the Warring States main map (after knocking out a few side quests), Nioh 3 allows you to completely reset your stats and skills anytime you want. The best part? It’s completely free. There are no currency costs, no consumable items required, and absolutely no penalties.

Here is your step-by-step playbook for rebuilding your character from the ground up.

The Offense: How to Respec Your Core Stats

You can wipe your base stats clean the moment you unlock the Warring States map.

The Execution Drill:

  1. Find a Facility: Head to any Shrine on the map and pray. (If you are currently running a mission in the Crucible, find a Bodhisattva Statue instead).

  2. Access the Draft Board: Select the “Level Up” option.

  3. Call the Reset: Hit the reset prompt by pressing L3 on your controller (or the 3 key on your keyboard).

  4. The Wipe: All your allocated stats will instantly drop back to zero.

  5. The Rebuild: You now have your entire pool of points to spend as you see fit. Confirm your new setup, and you’re ready to hit the field.

Scouting Note: This process has zero Amrita cost and no cooldown timer. You can run this play infinitely. However, remember that baseline permanent bonuses—like the starting stats tied to your initial Kusanagi choice—are locked in for the season and cannot be reset.

Special Teams: Respeccing Martial Arts and Ninjutsu

While your stats dictate your raw power, your skills are your actual playbook. You unlock these using Samurai and Ninja locks found across the map. If you want to swap out your techniques, you don’t even need a Shrine.

The Execution Drill:

  1. Open your main Settings menu.

  2. Navigate to the Acquire Martial Arts / Ninjutsu tab.

  3. Select the specific skill branch you want to adjust.

  4. Press Reset (L3/3).

  5. The Choice: The game will prompt you to either “Reset current category only” (a minor adjustment) or “Reset entire Samurai or Ninja tree” (a total teardown).

Once confirmed, all your Samurai and Ninja Points are fully refunded, allowing you to instantly reallocate them into a new offensive scheme.

When to Call the Audible (Situational Respeccing)

Because the developers removed the penalty flags for respeccing, resetting your character should become a standard part of your game-to-game strategy, rather than a last-ditch effort.

You should absolutely hit the reset button when:

  • Changing your primary weapon type to ensure your stats scale perfectly with your new gear.

  • Hitting a brick wall against a boss and needing a specific elemental or ranged counter.

  • Pivoting to a support role for a co-op session.

  • Min-maxing your damage output as you reach the late-game plateau.

Nioh 3 is built to reward flexibility. If your current scheme feels weak, tear it down and draft a new one.
