The Buffalo Bills are a professional football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls area, competing in the NFL as part of the AFC East division. Playing their home games at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, the Bills are the only NFL team with home games within New York State. Founded in 1959 as a charter member of the AFL, the team joined the NFL in 1970 after the AFL–NFL merger. Named after frontiersman “Buffalo Bill,” the Bills’ fanbase extends throughout Western New York and Southern Ontario. The team saw significant success in the 1990s with four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990 to 1993, though they did not secure a win. After enduring a lengthy playoff drought, they regained playoff contention in the late 2010s. Owned by Terry and Kim Pegula, the Bills are one of the NFL franchises with the most Super Bowl appearances without a victory, alongside the Minnesota Vikings.
