Founded in 1904, the club is renowned for its football team, which plays in Brazil’s top-tier Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the state championship, Campeonato Carioca. Botafogo boasts two national titles, from 1968 and 1995, and is celebrated for setting records such as the longest unbeaten run in Brazilian football history—52 matches from 1977 to 1978. Known for its distinctive black-and-white stripes, Botafogo also holds the record for the most players representing Brazil in World Cups and achieved the biggest win in Brazilian football history with a 24–0 victory over Sport Club Mangueira in 1909.
