Kaoru Mitoma, born on 20 May 1997, is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a left winger or attacking midfielder for Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League and the Japan national team. Mitoma grew up in Kawasaki and joined the Kawasaki Frontale academy at a young age. Despite being offered a promotion to the senior team, he chose to attend the University of Tsukuba to further develop his skills. During his time at Tsukuba, he played in various national and international tournaments and was named to the all-league XI in his final three season
