John Carlson (born January 10, 1990) is a prominent American defenseman and alternate captain for the Washington Capitals in the NHL. Drafted 27th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Carlson began his career in the USHL with the Indiana Ice before advancing to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the London Knights. He developed further with the Hershey Bears in the AHL. Notably, Carlson represented the United States in the 2010 World Juniors and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
