Aleksander “Sasha” Barkov, born on September 2, 1995, is a Finnish-Russian professional ice hockey player and the captain of the Florida Panthers in the NHL. Drafted second overall by the Panthers in 2013, Barkov is celebrated as one of the league’s elite two-way centers, excelling in both offense and defense. Known for his leadership and exceptional defensive skills, he won the prestigious Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2021 and 2024 as the NHL’s best defensive forward. Barkov holds dual Finnish-Russian citizenship, following in the footsteps of his father, Alexander Barkov Sr., a former professional ice hockey player.
