Odell Beckham Jr. is looking for a team to play for after struggling to return to his old form over the last few years. He recently made a trip to New York City and has posted a selection of these pictures on his Instagram account.
There is one picture in this selection that stands out. During an event held by Fanatics, OBJ is seen signing his jersey from his time with the New York Giants. This has only increased the rumors (mostly from Giants fans themselves) that he is going to make his return to the team.
Beckham was drafted by the Giants in 2014 and spent five seasons with the team. During this period, he was able to position himself as one of the league’s best wide receivers and a key weapon in the Eli Manning-led offense.
This culminated in Beckham Jr. playing a strong role in helping the Giants to make the playoffs in 2016, the first time they had made the postseason since their Super Bowl-winning four years earlier.
However, this would be the peak of what Beckham Jr. could do with the Giants. He spent most of the 2017 season injured and was unable to do much for the team in 2018, before his eventual trade to the Cleveland Browns.
Since the departure of Beckham Jr., the Giants offense has struggled to do much. This is partly due to the actions of former quarterback Daniel Jones, but there were many wide receivers over the last few years who made simple mistakes.
Now, with the team moving in a new direction in the quarterback position with Russell Willson/ Jaxson Dart at the helm and the team is already seeing the benefit of these players. Adding a star wide receiver like OBJ (who can work with Mallik Nabers) will only help the team move in the right direction.
Could Odell Beckham Jr replace Jalin Hyatt?
For OBJ to make the move back to the New York Giants, there needs to be an opening in the wide receiver position for him to fill.
This opening may come in the form of Jalin Hyatt. Hyatt was drafted by the Giants from the Tennessee Volunteers in 2023 but has disappointed during his time with the team.
During the recent preseason game against the New England Patriots, Hyatt scored one touchdown but made two drops that could have led to more points. This has raised the idea that Hyatt could be dropped from the team, leaving a space at wide receiver.
The Giants do have many talented WRs on their practice roster, but if OBJ is available and willing, would Brian Daboll make the move?
